Learning Support

"The children who require additional support with aspects of their learning benefit from the supportive and caring ethos of the school and the detailed knowledge the staff have of their educational and pastoral needs." (ETI Inspection Report 2014).

All pupils attending Edwards Primary School are tracked using Assessment Manager.  When identified as requiring additional support pupils receive booster classes of Reading Partnership or Catch-up Maths.

The SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) maintains a special educational needs register which is updated termly.  Pupils who reach stage 3 on the register are referred to the Educational Psychology Department.  A psychologist tests the pupil concerned, a report is written and a course of action put into place to support the pupil.

Pupils who reach stage 5 of the register receive a Statement of Special Need from the Education Authority and are reviewed annually by the psychologist.
