Year 7 students created model parachutes, connecting their learning to The Second World War by studying how paratroopers and spies were deployed behind enemy lines. They explored air resistance, surface area, and gravity, discovering how canopy size, load and material affect descent speed and stability.
Meet the Wonderful Year 7's
Year 7 will be exploring the following topics in The World Around Us classes.
Reach for the Skies
Fair Enough
Life is a Journey.
Pancake Tuesday
Thank you to Mrs Wilson for coming in to speak to us about life for her family in Hungary, during The Second World War. She brought along interesting artefacts for us to look at and introduced us to a famous Hungarian-Jewish poet.
Parachutes
Ziplines
Year 7's investigated the science of gravity and friction, working in groups to design and build their own zipline carriers. This linked to our topic of The Second World War, where we explored how supply lines and escape routes were sometimes set up using cables across difficult terrain.
Verse Speaking
Congratulations to all of the Year 7 pupils for delivering a confident, energetic verse speaking performance of 'My Teacher Stole My Ipod.' You should all be very proud - it is a valuable life lesson and achievement in itself, to stand in front of your peers and perform.
Hello Santa!
Christmas Dinner
Christmas Daily Mile
S'mores and Hot Chocolate!

Year 7's enjoyed a well deserved winter treat today.
To celebrate the end of SEAG - we did a little paper shredding!
Launch of the Poppy Appeal at the Castlederg Branch of the Royal British Legion
Taking Flight!
As part of their science work on forces, Year 7 pupils learned about aerodynamics and how thrust and lift help objects to fly. We had great fun testing our skills and competing to see whose plane could soar the furthest!
Robotic Hands
As part of our space topic, Year 7 pupils followed instructions to make their own robotic hands. We have learned how robots help astronauts by completing tasks in space that are too difficult or dangerous for humans.
Exploring Shadows and the Earth’s Movement
Year 7 pupils have been investigating how shadows are formed and how their position and length change as the Earth moves in relation to the Sun. Through this experiment, they explored how light travels, why shadows form, and how these observations help us understand the Earth’s rotation and the passage of time.
Year 7 Mars Rover Challenge
Year 7 pupils have put their design and engineering skills to the test by creating Mars rovers, capable of withstanding the challenging terrain of the Red Planet and collecting samples to return to Earth. The students demonstrated incredible ingenuity, creativity, and teamwork throughout the project — truly thinking like future space engineers!
