Year 5 would like to say a really BIG THANK YOU to all the kitchen staff for our lovely Christmas Dinner.
WOW!!
Santa came to school in rally car!!!!
YEAR 5 WOULD LIKE TO WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND PEACEFUL NEW YEAR.
We visited the Grand Opera House in Belfast for a performance of Cinderella on Friday 6th January 2017.
We are enjoying learning about William Shakespeare. Mrs Michelle Young from Ink Wing Academy has been teaching us. Here are some snaps of our first freeze frames for A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Feasts and Festivals
Year 5 took part in a one hour workshop all about Feasts and Festivals. Derry City Council in conjunction with the culture quarter 2017 provided all the resources and learning. We loved meeting Sinead and learning all about the different Irish/British/Ethnic identities and diverse faiths going through the yearly calendar. We also got the opportunity to create our own unique dragon to celebrate Chinese New Year.
We had fun with Paul Diamond.
Home Fire Safety Talk
Year 5 had a visit from Andy from Newtownstewart Fire and Rescue Service on Friday 3rd March. He highlighted the importance of fire safety in the home for the whole family. He gave us an activity pack which has been designed to get the fire safety message across in a fun and effective way.
Monday 6th - Friday 10th March 2017
Constables Lorraine, Moira and Stuart from the Community Policing Teams came to our class to talk about road, pedestrian and cycle safety. We learned all about the importance of bicycle safety (all bikes need brakes in good working order, reflectors and a bell).
We learned what can happen if we don't wear a helmet and high visibility clothing.
All children up to the age of 12 or height of 1m 32cm need to travel in a car on a booster seat.
The talk and demonstration was excellent we learned lots!

Birds of Prey
We had a visit today from Mr Patterson and his Birds of Prey.
We asked questions and found out a lot about these special birds. Some children and staff had the opportunity to hold and feed the birds.
William Shakespeare
Poet
Our friends and family came to see us showcase our SHAKESPEARE SHENANIGANS on Friday 31st March.
We put on a modern performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!!!
LANTERNS
We extended our creative art of Shakespeare when Bronagh Corr-McNicholl, an artist from the 'Pushkin Trust' came to visit. We made lanterns to illustrate the forest scene of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Our topic this term is 'COUNTRY FILE.'
During this topic we are learning about farming. We interviewed Mr Sproule and Mrs Henderson on modern day farming.
We learned a lot.
After Mr Sproule's interview we got the opportunity to have a look around his Massey Ferguson Tractor.
Religious Diversity Day
On Wednesday 26th April we visited the four main churches in Castlederg to learn about different cultures.
